2013 is winding down and businesses around the globe are making plans (or have made them) for 2014. Most of those plans will be poorly defined and lacking in clear objectives. Rather than focus your energy on things beyond your control, focus on you. Would you like your software development team and your company to be more agile? It begins with you.
You have to be more agile. You have to focus on learning, being a team player, and delivering tangible value. Start with the following concepts and see where they lead you:
- Listen more; Talk less (you’ll learn more)
- Praise more; Criticize less (you’ll be a team player)
- React more; Agonize less (you’ll deliver more)
I’m leaving you with a few words of wisdom by John Lennon from the song, Happy Xmas (War Is Over). Lennon was a pacifist and a bit of a lunatic (his word), but more importantly, he believed in people and wanted to be accepted by them. We need to believe in each other. You can only be accepted if you are willing to accept.
